Geeking out about "stuff'
I'm a geek of many flavours, I guess one of my traits is that when I get into something I get into it in a big way (this may sound familiar to you, particularly if you a slightly obsessive male).
You know what I mean, you start a new hobby and within a week you have accumulated so much stuff that you are the epitome of 'all the gear, no idea'.
I don't consider myself an expert, but I do like things that work well and I'm a keen reader of websites that cover gear and gadgets. In particular I've long been a fan of Mark Hurst http://www.goodexperience.com/ and his annual, no-nonsense gift guide http://unclemark.org/. In the dim and distant past I had a blog of my own (long since deleted) where I reviewed things I thought were quite good.
Now I have this site to publish non-work stuff, I thought I might revisit this vein of my interest and from time to time talk about stuff that I like.
Some of the things I am interested in:
- Bikes - I did a lot of mountain biking in England, I'm back on a road bike now (actually a fixed wheel cross bike), though not riding nearly enough at the moment
- Coffee - I've spent far too much time and money over the last six months learning to make the perfect espresso / cappuccino / latte
- The web - goes without saying
- Gadgets - ooh I do love a new techie plaything, especially if its shiny, or if its made by...
- Apple - I've been using Macs for a long long time. Regardless of what the naysayers might say, its always been a more pleasant experience than PCs in my opinion. Ipods, iphones etc etc just make the world all the nicer.
- Outdoor gear - from tent pegs to camper vans (one day...)
- Anything that folds or is designed for travelling - swiss army knives, 'travel clothing', etc etc. This is my Bible: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collapsibles-Design-Album-Space-Saving-Objects/dp/0500513015/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1249156308&sr=1-1
- Luggage - for the last twenty years I've been searching in vain for the perfect travel bag. I think I may have just found it but more on that later...
